Education Policy and Diversity

One of the ongoing education policies that has seen a sudden rise of management is the Anti-bullying act. Bullying can be described as the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate someone. Within the education system, there has been a peak of introducing laws to protect students within and outside of the learning environment.

Ways teachers are making strides to making the learning environment inclusive is by introducing lesson plans that are central to including everyone and allowing students to share their differences and background.  Some examples of introducing inclusion include having students present topics, read about important and current issues students are dealing with and promoting discussion groups and safe zones. In addition, parents and administrators have taken time out to introduce community based support groups and specially targeted days to focus on promoting inclusion.

Week 5: Assignment 2

Assistive technology is defined as any product or tool that increase and/or maintain the functional capacities of children of disabilities. Some of the functions that are targeted through assistive technology include cognitive problems and physical impairment. The use of technology within the last decade has become a big push amongst various platforms and has served as a great resource for students, teachers and administrators. There are various tools that can be used to improve listening, math skills, organization and memory, reading and writing. Some ATs provide students with spoken language difficulties an opportunity to utilize during lessons and during meetings. This provides students an equal playing field amongst their fellow classmates. https://www.ncld.org/  Provides educators with an opportunity to tap into resources and provides information connected with focus groups that surveys various areas (rural, suburban and urban schools). In addition, the company advocates for changes within education policies that benefits students and teachers. Tools to develop literacy are provided for parents and teachers to implement into the classroom and at home. https://ldaamerica.org/resources/ Provides a strong push utilizing advocacy and support from changes within the government.
